First Blog Post: A Month of Firsts
Hi there, Honey!
My friends call me Reya, and this is my first blog post on The Local Florist!
I’m so excited to share what the first month of running my flower shop in DFW has been like, along with a peek at some of our most-loved floral arrangements.
If you’d like to know more about my journey and the story behind this business, you can read Our Story.
I’ve been working with flowers for over a decade now, and while I know my way around a bouquet, stepping into the role of a small business owner in Tarrant County has felt like both a brave leap and a humbling new chapter. To my heart’s discontent, I’ve found myself feeling untethered and a bit like an imposter during this short time.
Of course, like most of us in emotional peril:
I called upon the powers of music to clear my head and make me doubtless!
When it came time to write my first floral recipe, I drew inspiration from lyrics and an album cover by a band in particular called Her’s.
In their song “Cool With You,” they sing:
We don’t have to go
anywhere at all
Anywhere at all
Bless our garden's growth
Ivy climbs the wall
Heather in the fall
And thus, the idea for Her was born!! This song reminds me that I can love with the seasons and be loved with the seasons—and for me, that’s what being a florist and giving people flowers feels like.

Her is a bouquet crafted especially for hopeless romantics and lovers. This design for me is about the feeling of love and being loved, so I gatekeep the integrity of Her by personally hand selecting everything from the most fragrant garden roses, and sweetpeas, to the fluffiest heather and freshest tulips. Something else I love about Her is the way the mini carnations and tulips bloom out over time.
Whim - Handtied Bouquet Design by Reya Muir
My design Whim was imagined straight out of a storybook. This meadow inspired, fairytale-esque floral arrangement is a new favorite, and by my surprise has garnered the most attention (and orders) out of all my designs so far! The pillowy dahlias and fluttering ranunculus steal the show but the whimsical nature of the soft and airy blooms surrounding it feels playful yet elevated. The strawflower in Whim is truly an underdog because of the texture, color variation and abundance of blooms in a typical stem.

August brought plenty of highs and lows, but I’m so grateful to say that business is blooming. My simple marketing approach—delivering flowers across DFW and sharing daily delivery photos on Instagram—has connected me to so many wonderful people. Professional business cards have also been a game changer for networking and local community outreach. While Her brought me my first floral subscription, Whim became my most-ordered design. And in a more tender moment, I was honored to create sympathy arrangements for the funeral service of a family member, which reminded me how much comfort and meaning flowers can bring during grief.
What I’ve realized is that growing into this role as a florist and small business owner is a lot like designing floral recipes: it takes gathering the right ingredients to create something beautiful and lasting. Designing Her and Whim has given me clarity, confidence, and a path forward with flowers I’m proud to offer my community.
